8 Shires Distillery is a small craft distillery in the Historic Triangle of Williamsburg Virginia.
​Our mission at 8 Shires Coloniale Distillery is to research, preserve, teach, and present the history of distillation from the Colonial American Period, the years 1578 – 1797.
Our spirits are hand-crafted using historic recipes and ingredients of the 17th and 18th century.

Up until the 1950s, A. Smith Bowman Distillery was the sole producer of legal whiskey in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since then, the focus has shifted from our classic spirit to producing premium handcrafted small batches and experimental editions that embody innovation at its core.

Today, our historic family-owned distillery has relocated to Fredericksburg, yet still continues to balance our long-lived traditions, honoring one of Virginia’s great pioneers. Most recently in 2016 and 2017, A. Smith Bowman Distillery won the “World’s Best Bourbon” at the World Whiskies Awards — solidifying us as Virginia’s Most Award-Winning Distillery.

Located directly on the Appalachian Trail in downtown Damascus, Appalachian Heritage Distillery proudly produces pristine spirits. Our generational family knowledge stems from a region steeped in cultural tradition. We are licensed as a distillery and a VA ABC store, which means you can enjoy a few samples of our spirits, and take a bottle home with you as well!

Bondurant Brothers Distillery is run by third generation distiller Robert Bondurant. The Bondurant brothers were famous for their clear spirits and fruit brandy in Franklin Co Virginia back during the Great Depression and that legacy is still carried on today. We use Virginia grains and fruits and are one of the very few distilleries that malts their own grains. The tasting room is open select weekends during the year and those can be found on our social media pages.

Catoctin Creek® was founded by Becky and Scott Harris in 2009 as the first legal distillery in Loudoun County since Prohibition. We are located in Purcellville, Virginia, in the heart of the Loudoun Valley. The name "Catoctin" is a regional name. Pronounced Ka-TOCK-tin, the name derives from the Indian tribal name "Kittocton" which meant "place of many deer". Catoctin is a range of mountains and the eponymous creek which flows picturesquely past the distillery and into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Watershed.

Within walking distance from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, you will find Chesapeake Bay Distillery nestled in the creative ViBe district of Virginia Beach (17th and Baltic Avenue). Come visit our tasting room where you can enjoy a wide array of award-winning spirits neat or in a mixed cocktail. Get ready to be "wowed" by our vodkas, tequilas, liqueurs and whiskey. When you fall in love you can purchase a bottle and tell your friends all about us (and come back to visit of course!). We are a small, local business that's been producing quality Virginia spirits since 2005. We appreciate the opportunity to showcase what we have to offer with the Virginia Spirits Passport program. Tastings are $8 each (limit 2 per person) and our hours are FRI/SAT 12-7pm and SUN 1-6 pm.

Relax with friends and enjoy a whisky flight or a hand-crafted seasonal cocktail. Enjoy spacious outdoor seating in our riverside cocktail garden with lovely views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Indoor seating is also available. We also offer a distillery tour that provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of our production areas, where guests will learn about distillery production, how we make great whisky and the history of our unique property in Sperryville. Tours are offered daily at 11 am and 1 pm. Plan to spend approximately one hour and fifteen minutes for the complete tour, taste, and shop experience.

Light bar snacks are available for purchase, and you may bring your own picnic snacks (chips, charcuterie, cheeses, etc) that can be enjoyed in the outdoor seating area. However, outside food is not allowed indoors, and please, no fast food or large trays of hot food.

Our distillery is family-friendly, all ages are welcome, and your well-behaved fur baby on a leash is permitted in the tasting areas.

Our speakeasy lounge and fire pit courtyard areas are comfortable spaces to relax with friends and enjoy a whisky flight or a hand-crafted seasonal cocktail. We offer a variety of bar snacks crafted to pair perfectly with our whisky flights and craft cocktails, including a lovely cheese and charcuterie board, a seasonal fruit and cheese flatbread, and mixed nuts. We offer distillery tours daily, including a walking tour through the property for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of our production areas, where guests will learn about distillery production, how we make great whisky, and the history of our unique property in Williamsburg. Reservations are required, but we will do our best to accommodate walk-ins.

From July 8th, 2024 through 2025, the Education Center exhibit on George Washington’s life will be off display for an extensive rebuild.
